Audio editor free, in your browser
Cut mistakes, move clips, repair a noisy section and mix up to four tracks on a waveform timeline. Everything runs on your device, then you download a WAV or MP3. Your original file stays unchanged.
Start with mono or stereo audio under five minutes and 50 MB. High sample rates have a smaller memory limit.
Save on this device and manage checkpoints
Save one checkpoint on this device, including the audio, clip edits, tracks and both repair versions. New edits need another save. Undo history and listening volume are not saved. Saving replaces the previous checkpoint and is limited to 64 MiB of source audio. Browser storage can be cleared; keep your originals and download your finished mix.
Audio is never uploaded. Closing the tab discards unsaved edits; an explicit checkpoint stays on this device until deleted or cleared by the browser.
How to edit audio here, in five steps
- STEP 01
Choose a file
Drop a WAV, MP3, M4A or MP4 recording under five minutes and 50 MB onto the editor, or try the sample. It decodes on your device; nothing is uploaded.
- STEP 02
Place the playhead and split
Click or drag the ruler to seek, or press Space to play. Put the playhead where a mistake begins and press S to split. Drag across a waveform to select a range; Split then cuts at both ends at once.
- STEP 03
Delete, keep or move
Delete removes the clip or range and leaves its gap. More offers Delete, close gap and Keep range only. Drag a clip header to move it, its edges to trim, and the corner controls to fade. Cmd/Ctrl+Z undoes any step.
- STEP 04
Repair only what needs it
Select a noisy clip or range and open Repair to reduce noise or hum or raise quiet speech, compare Before and After, then set the Amount. Tracks holds names, gain, Mute and Solo for up to four tracks, and Add recording places another file at the playhead.
- STEP 05
Export WAV or MP3
Choose Export for a 16-bit WAV editing copy or a 192 kbps MP3. The download is the mix of every track at its gain, fades and Mute/Solo state. Master volume does not change it.
How the editor works
Every clip points to a range of your original recording. Splitting, trimming or moving a clip changes those references; nothing rewrites your file until you choose Export. Undo and redo keep a bounded history of edits without copying the audio for every action.
Decoding, waveform peaks, repair and export run in a Worker on your device, so nothing is uploaded and the page stays responsive while it works. The timeline holds up to four tracks, each with a name, gain, Mute and Solo. Clip gain, fades and track levels go through the same renderer for preview and download, so what you hear is what you export. Master volume changes only what you hear.
Repair works on a selected clip or range rather than the whole file: check loudness and peaks, review proposed cuts in quiet gaps, or reduce noise or hum and raise quiet speech with Before/After and an Amount control. WAV export is 16-bit PCM. MP3 is a new 192 kbps encode and may add encoder padding. Both contain audio only, without original tags, artwork or video.

What it does not do yet
- Each recording is under five minutes and 50 MB; high sample rates have a smaller memory limit. Add more recordings one at a time with the same limit and a shared memory check.
- Selected repair covers noise, hum and quiet level on a selection up to 30 seconds. Echo, muffled, distorted, one-ear and wind repairs run on whole files in their own fixers.
- It does not record from a microphone, host effect plugins, export video or keep projects in the cloud. A checkpoint lives in this browser only.
- Exports are 16-bit WAV or 192 kbps MP3. FLAC, AAC and lossless MP3 frame copying are not available.
Questions
Is the audio editor free?
Yes. Editing and WAV/MP3 export are free, with no account. Processing runs locally; the tool never uploads your recording.
Can I edit MP3 or M4A?
Yes, when your browser can read the duration and decode the codec. WAV export avoids another lossy encode. MP3 export makes a new 192 kbps file; it does not copy compressed frames directly.
Can I join or mix several recordings?
Yes. Add a recording to any of four tracks at the playhead, so files can follow each other on one track or overlap on different tracks. Each file must be under five minutes and 50 MB, and the session checks shared memory before decoding. Mono clips play in both ears of a stereo mix. A stereo addition makes a mono mix stereo; Undo removes the addition. Track gain, Mute and Solo also affect downloads.
How is this different from the audio trimmer?
The trimmer keeps one time range of one file. The editor makes many cuts in one project, moves clips, fades, mixes tracks and repairs a selected part, with undo for every step. Use the trimmer for a quick excerpt and the editor for an edit.
Does the waveform need a mouse?
No. Focus the timeline ruler and use arrow keys to seek, Shift for a second or Alt for one sample; Home and End reach the recording boundaries. Move, trim and fade controls also accept left and right arrows. The clip menu and labelled time fields offer a clickable alternative to dragging. Open Precise position beside the timeline for a numeric playhead and range boundaries in exact samples. Range offsets are relative to the selected clip. Undo, redo and transport have buttons and keyboard shortcuts.
Does it work on a phone?
The layout fits a 390 px screen with no horizontal scrolling, every control is at least 44 px tall, and the waveform accepts touch dragging. Exact cuts are easier with a keyboard, and we have not benchmarked older phones; five-minute files use real memory on a small device.
Will it save my project after a reload?
Only if you choose Save checkpoint on this device. It keeps one checkpoint of the source audio, both repair versions, tracks and clip edits in this browser, up to 64 MiB of source audio. New edits need another save, which replaces the previous checkpoint. Resume it from the empty editor. Undo history and listening volume start fresh. Delete saved checkpoint removes it; browser storage can also be cleared. Keep your originals and download your finished audio.
