LUFS meter free, in your browser

Find out how loud your recording feels, and how close its peaks come to clipping. Choose a file to measure it here in your browser.

Processing runs on your device. Up to 200 MB and 60 minutes. Format support depends on your browser.

What these readings tell you

Integrated LUFS estimates the loudness of the whole file using K-weighting and loudness gates. It is useful for comparing finished recordings; it does not show whether two speakers are balanced or whether every word is clear.

Sample peak is the loudest saved sample. True peak also estimates the waveform between samples. This meter uses 4x interpolation for that estimate. It follows the mono/stereo BS.1770 measurement approach, but is not a certified compliance meter. A commercial delivery should also be checked with the destination's approved meter.

The browser may resample the recording when decoding it. These readings describe that decoded audio, not untouched file-header data. Measure the final encoded file again, because a lossy export can change its peaks. Files shorter than 400 ms and layouts beyond stereo do not receive a LUFS reading here.

Questions

Does the meter change my audio?

No. It only measures a decoded copy. It does not change gain, compress, or save over your recording.

Is -14 LUFS a target for every recording?

No. Spotify describes -14 LUFS for normal music playback. Spoken-word podcasts and broadcast deliverables have different guidance. Use the destination's current specification.

Why is a duplicated mono file louder in stereo?

This loudness measurement sums both channels. Two identical channels measure about 3 LU louder than the same signal in one channel, even if their sample peaks are identical.

Does it upload my file?

The measurement is performed locally in a Worker. The tool sends no audio file or sample data to a server.
