When Cleanvoice is the better pick

  • You want the ums, uhs and stutters gone. fix.fm doesn't listen to words, so it can't do this.
  • You want mouth clicks and lip smacks cut out of a long conversation without doing it by hand.
  • You want a transcript, show notes or an edited video podcast from the same upload.

When fix.fm is

  • The audio is private: interviews, client calls, anything under an NDA. It never leaves your computer, not even for 7 days.
  • You've used your free minutes, or you don't want to buy hours for a file you fix once.
  • The problem is how it sounds, not what's said: echo, hum, wind, clipping, a muffled mic, a voice in one ear.
  • You want to keep every breath and pause, just quieter, so the talk still sounds like a person.
  • You want to know what went wrong, so the next recording comes out better.

Questions

Is fix.fm a free Cleanvoice alternative?

For how a recording sounds, yes: echo, background noise, hum, clicks, loud breaths and more, with no account and no minute credits. For what's said, no. fix.fm doesn't cut ums, uhs or stutters, which is the main thing Cleanvoice does.

Can fix.fm remove filler words like um and uh?

No. Finding filler words means understanding speech, and fix.fm only listens to the sound. If you need the ums gone, Cleanvoice or an editor that edits by transcript is the right tool.

Does Cleanvoice keep my audio?

Its pricing page says the original and edited files are stored for 7 days and then removed for good. With fix.fm the file is never uploaded, so there's nothing to keep.

Can fix.fm remove long pauses?

Yes, with the free Remove silence tool. It finds stretches quieter than the speech around them, shows you every cut first and keeps short natural pauses. It works by level, not words, so it won't find a pause that's full of noise.

Can I use both?

Yes. Fix how it sounds in fix.fm first, like echo, hum or a voice in one ear, then send the cleaner file to Cleanvoice to cut the ums. Cleaner sound also makes word detection easier.
