Processing runs on your device. Up to 200 MB and 60 minutes. Removing pauses changes timing and can break video or transcript synchronization.

Shorten gaps, not words

This tool looks at 10 ms blocks and proposes a cut only when every channel stays below your level threshold for the minimum duration. It is not speech recognition. A whisper, a fading note or room tone can be below that threshold too. Preview every proposed cut and untick any you want to keep.

Each long gap is shortened to the retained duration, split evenly between its two sides. Shorter gaps stay intact. The cut positions are shared across all channels to keep them aligned. Optional 5 ms fades soften the joins. An entirely quiet file is left intact, because there may be useful audio below the chosen threshold.

Removing time changes the recording's pacing and breaks synchronization with an existing video, subtitle file or transcript. Work on a separate audio copy. Listen to the finished edit and measure its loudness again. A timeline editor is a better choice when you need synchronized video edits or detailed control over every sentence.

Questions

Does it remove background noise?

No. It deletes time from quiet gaps. Noise under the speech stays there. Use the background-noise fixer for a steady hiss, and review the pauses afterward.

Can it cut out quiet speech?

Yes, if the threshold is too high. It measures level, not meaning. Start with a low threshold, preview the proposed gaps, and keep any that contain useful sound. An entirely below-threshold file receives no cuts.

Are the stereo channels edited separately?

No. Every channel must be quiet at the same time, and the same sample ranges are removed from all channels. This preserves their relative timing.

Why do I still hear short pauses?

Gaps shorter than the minimum stay unchanged. Longer gaps keep the duration you chose. Some breathing room helps speech sound natural; removing every pause usually makes a conversation harder to follow.

Can I remove silence from MP3?

Yes, when your browser decodes it. WAV export avoids a second lossy encode and keeps the edited sample count. MP3 is re-encoded at 192 kbps and may add padding. Neither download includes the original metadata.
